Hey Everyone, So it is hard to believe that this year is almost over. So many things have happened this past academic year, parties, events and of course all the junior level courses that I managed to survive taking. This next two weeks are final week, meaning all our exams and final presentations are due within the next 14 days. Before I sign off however I wanted to mention this weeks events, which have been just as eventful as the events throughout the year.Firstly, yesterday was the Clark intramural coed final and the premier final, the coed final was between the “Spartans” and “The Refugees” which are two teams that some of my friends play for. I watched coed final which was pretty intense. “The Refugees” won 3 to 1 against the “Spartan” in one of the most dramatic games of the season end. There were great shots, unfair referee decisions as well brilliant saves by both sides, the makings of a great football/soccer match. The Refugees went on to play the premier final, which was decided by penalties. The last penalty shot was scored by the “manager” of the team, Sameed, who somehow managed to put the ball through the goalkeepers legs and win it for the reigning champions. Watching the matches made me more amped for intramural soccer next year, but of course only after some summer extensive training if we ever wish to win the glory of Clark Intramural Soccer Champions.  Academic spree day was this thursday as well, and my roommate Sahar was presenting on, funny enough,  soccer and german nationalism, basically how soccer has united the nation and new generation of germans, making them more patriotic and proud to wave a german flag. It was an amazing presentation where she, and her group members, talked about the “Wunder von Bern” which I studied in my german class. Basically in 1954 Germany won the soccer world cup for the first time, shortly after the end of world war two. They was a new wave of german patriotism afterwards, similar to that experienced  during the 2006 world cup. And today, Today I was elected president of the International Students Association (ISA) (yay!!! ;-). Yes it was a very emotion time for me considering I have wanted to be president since my freshmen year and that I love ISA and am very passionate about this student club . Now I look to senior year (as well as my final next week ;-/) hoping for the best and excited for the future. So everyone Good luck with everything, hope to see you around Clark sometime soon and always remember, “College life is too short not to enjoy!”Bye-  love Tuku  spree-day-presentaion.jpg   spree-day-presntation-2.jpg

Last post

Hey everyone,

This is the last post of my Clark Diaries. It has been a great experience for me to share my life at Clark with everyone. I cannot believe this semester is already ending. I am going to study abroad in London next year through the LSE Program (London School of Economics and Political Science) and I am really excited about it. Of course, I will miss everyone at Clark.

Goodbye for now!

Hello loyal readers,

This is the last chronicle of my life on Clark Diaries for now!  The end of the year has showed up, so it’s time to hunker down in the library until classes and finals are over.  I had a great weekend and probably saw many of you on campus for Admitted Student Weekend.  There has been a lot of time spent in the library typing, so it’s a relief to write about what I’ve been up to, rather than Middle Eastern policy or French language laws.

As a tour guide for the admissions office, I was awake at 10 am on Saturday to give tours to prospective students and their families, as well as answer any questions they might have had about student life in general. Friday I had lunch with several prospectives who had questions ranging from why did I come to clark (because the people here are awesome!) to which medical or dental schools I know of that have accepted Clark graduates (Harvard, Yale, Brown and UMass to name a few). International Students Association also attended the Activities fair during open house weekend. This is were all the student clubs on campus have tables set up in the gym to promote their clubs and show prospective students the different types of clubs they can join if they come to clark. With over 90 clubs and counting, almost all possible areas of interest were covered. It is always fun to ask students what they might be interested in and take them directly to the table that runs that club. For example this student was very interested in international relations and the world, and does model UN in high school. She came over to our table and after talking to her for some time, we directed her to our friends at the Model UN table just behind us! She was very thrilled to know Clark had Model UN and that you could make it count for course credit if you take the Model UN based class!  Later friday my friends and I took part in a trivia game hosted by the Clark University Geography Association (CUGA) called “where in the world is Carmen Sandiego”.

Hey everyone,

I was pretty busy this week for my papers and presentations. Next week is the last week of class and all my final projects and exams are coming. Besides studying hard, I went to some of the events, such as an intramural soccer game, IA end of year party. I also tabled on Saturday for the Admitted Student Open House.

This weekend a lot of students went home for Easter and Passover, but there were still events going on.  On Saturday night, the Asian Culture Society hosted a “Glow Dance” in the Grind.  I had never been to a glow dance, but apparently it is when everybody wears glow sticks and other glow-paraphernalia.  It looked really cool in the dark with everybody moving around.  See the picture for evidence!  Earlier in the night, Clark VOX (Voices for Planned Parenthood, I think) hosted the annual Sex Fest in Tilton Hall.  This event is all about STI prevention, fun, games and music.  The proceeds for admission are being contributed to the construction of a new Planned Parenthood facility near campus.  The theme was “Sex and Candy”, based on the 1997 Marcy Playground hit, so there was plenty of candy to be eaten.dscn0026-glow-scene.jpg  dscn0033-sign-for-glowdance.jpgdscn0020-sexfest.jpg

Hey EveryoneSo this Tuesday was Spree day at Clark, which is a day that they cancel all classes and put out inflatables and games for everyone to play. There is also a free breakfast and lunch for everyone, as well as a concert in the Gym. This year the band Guster came to play at Clark. I woke up at 6am with my friends on Spree Day to grab breakfast at the Annie’s Clark Diner right on the corner of Downing street. She makes the best fried eggs and huge pancakes for really cheap. After we had our full breakfast for under $5 bucks, we went of to the Kneller Athletic Centre to  register for Spree Day. We received out wristbands and free Spree day shirts and immediately went to play the inflatable games.

Spree Day

Today was Spree Day!  A Spring staple at Clark, Spree Day is said to have started years ago when the President of the University saw how nice it was outside and decided to cancel classes so students could enjoy a break.  This has evolved into a day full of concerts, games, food and more!  Everything except for classes can happen on Spree Day.  While it’s supposed to be a secret, people usually find out before the early morning e-mail is sent out announcing it.

Hey Everyone,So it finally came and went. The Gala is officially over and it was a huge success. We had seating for 1800 people but we had over 2000 people attend. We were actually forced to close the door to prevent more people from coming as it would have been a fire hazard. The international Gala is a show where students volunteer to do performances from different regions of the world. This year we had over 31 performances representing over 50 different countries and regions of the world. They were traditional dances, mixed with more contemporary music. We also had shorts skits, live irish folk band and singing. At the end of every Gala we have the infamous flag ceremony where students from different countries come on stage with their flags and say something in their native tongue before waving their flag proudly for all to see. Gala was pretty crazy this year with last minute glitches. Cha, the president of ISA twisted his knee the day before Gala during practices, he was in three dances and had to drop out of one of them last minute. Luckily we found a back dancer the day of gala to fill his spot in the dance. We also had issues with editing the making of the Gala video that plays during intermission. I was in the editing room all day with Dan, a very awesome volunteer editor, trying to fix it and burn it onto a DVD in time. We only got it done at 7:30pm, roughly half an hour into the gala! We were both very relieved when it finally played on the huge jumbo screens. So between not having enough seating for everyone, DVD issues and our president being injured day before Gala, it was a huge relief when it was over and everything went well. I danced for Germany, Pakistan and Southern Africa and though all three dances went every well. But there was more…. THE GALA AFTER-PARTY. We set up the cafeteria in the university centre club-style complete with glow sticks and lights. We barely advertised  for it but by midnight we had reached capacity because it felt like everyone was there. It was a lot of fun, we stayed up late at night and woke up early in the morning to set up the stages and then break it down. There was a lot of bonding going on between everyone involved in Gala, proving that it is never too late to make new friends, and that Clark is never too small of a place that you won’t meet new people even after you have been here for three years. Many people put up pictures of the Gala and our wonderful costumes and such. I took some pictures of Gala set and and clean up! See the hard work we put into getting it all done. SPREE DAY is coming up soon which is a day all classes are cancelled and we have carnival type day on the green. Maybe that is why I can’t get back into the studying-frame of mind. Between Gala and Spree Day there just been way too much fun going on at Clark, that a break from work load is very much needed!See yaSetting up the StageHanging out on the bleaches at 4am after GalaTaking a Break from After party set up!Cleaning Stage
