Apple Crisp for Heroes

Hey everybody!  I’m Dan and this is my first post. I am a Junior here at Clark, majoring in Communication & Culture and minoring in Sociology.  However, instead of all of that bio stuff (which you can read somewhere else on here anyways), I thought I would share with you something that I did this weekend.  This evening we had an event called Apple Crisp for Heroes, sponsored by Clark Hillel and RA Celina from Johnson Hall. Earlier in the day students went apple picking at a local orchard, and then in the evening we took the apples and made them into apple crisp. There were a bunch of people there, we had some good music, and overall we had a lot of fun. Later on, we delivered the crisps to a firehouse nearby as a way to say thank you for all the hard work that the firemen and women do every day. They are ready to risk their lives for others every day, and we thought that bringing them some home-baked treats would be a nice way to say thank you, and they really appreciated it.  Here are some photos from the event! The apple crisp gangSarah Beth StirsApplespeelspealingDishesCrisps

I’m really impressed by the “Apple Crisp for Heroes” post.
I am currently a senior in high school, discovering my options for college and Clark Univeristy is among my top choices. As I’ve been researching the school, I came acrossed the Clark Dairies and decided to read up on the activities on the campus in the volunteering category. When I read that students made apple crips for firefighters, I was appreciative and excited. My dad is the cheif of our local fire department, so I have been involved with the service my entire life. I give my time as a junior now and see all the hard work that these men and women put into the service. The fact students are recognizing these people is awesome!

Thanks so much for your comment!
We really had a lot of fun making them, and the Worcester fire fighters were really appreciative.
If you want to know more about volunteerism at Clark you should check out the website of the CEV (Community Engagement & Volunteering) center. http://www.clarku.edu/community.cfm They have a lot of great resources about how you can make a difference while you are here at Clark.
Best,
~Dan
