Eid dinner!!

 eid-dinner.jpg

Hey everyone, So on Friday it was the annual Eid ul-Fitr dinner hosted by Clark’s Muslim Cultural Society (MCS).  Eid marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month for fasting. It was held in Tilton Hall, our huge multi-purpose hall, and was attended by at over 150 people. The dress code was semi-formal so my friends and I took this opportunity to dress up in traditional attire. My housemate Sahar, from Pakistan, is a member of MCS and really wanted me to wear my yellow Pakistani Shalwar Kameez, a traditional Pakistani pants and dress outfit that her mother specially got made for me in Pakistan. We arrived a little late, (it’s not very easy getting five girls in heels and rushing to put on the last coat of lip-gloss out of the door in time!) So we got there finally and it was wonderful. The food was appetizing, especially the dessert, and the decorations were lovely. Everyone looked really great dressed up, huge change from the regular sweat pants and shirt attire so typical of a Clarkie. I took my camera to snap some pictures, and immediately everyone thought I was somehow the official photographer for the night!! We had an informative slide show on the history of Eid and the Muslim religion. Afterwards we had a question and answer game where they gave CD’s to people who could answer from the Slide show correctly. I personally believe I was robbed of a CD considering I kept putting my hand up to answer questions but was never picked on. Overall it was a great night and a lot of us learned more about the origins of the Muslim religion and its festivals.    Today I have a meeting with my publicity committee for the International Students Association. We are planning our huge event for the fall semester called the International Journey. It’s a Bazaar type event where people from different countries come and put up stalls with foods, drinks, ornaments and information about their countries. I can’t wait for it as every year I always do Namibia. Must skedaddle now… have dreaded homework to do as well as prepping for my meeting. See you guys on the flip side.2ku
