Pineapple Express, Walking around, Phish tickets and a lot of pictures

Hi everyone,

Last week after I updated my Clark Diary, I went on a long walk around Worcester with a friend.  We checked out Elm Park, WPI, the Worcester Art Museum and some stores on Main Street.  There was a fire truck leaving a fire house as we walked past it, photo evidence below. As a Clark student, many programs and facilities at other colleges in the city are open to you thanks to the Worcester College Consortium.  Also, the Worcester Art Museum is free, because Clark is a member, so all of it’s students are treated like members.  We saw some Roman mosaics and Chinese statues.  While walking on Main Street, we passed the Palladium, a concert venue which was hosting an Insane Clown Posse (ICP) concert.  Their fans were dressed up with clown makeup, so it added an unexpected twist to the walk (see picture).  I’m seeing the Roots at the Palladium in 2 weeks.

During the week, some students were deflated, then brought back to life by the Red Sox apparent downfall in the ALCS.  Game 7 is tonight, so we’ll see what happens.  The Presidential debate was shown on a big screen in the Dining Hall again, which was much nicer than watching on my small TV.  It was cool hearing how my friends spent their long weekends.  Many went home or visited friends at other schools.     We started reading Nausa by Jean Paul Sartre in Existentialism class.  It’s interesting.  Some parts make perfect sense, other parts seem nonsensical until Prof. DeMarco unpacks them for us.  A lot of prospective students sat in on my classes this week, because there was a University Preview day on Saturday.  Lots of tours and confused parents to be seen.

One of my friends from home is on Fall Break now, so he came up for the weekend.  We went to see Pineapple Express in the Dining Hall on the big screen.  They served candy, pie and hot chocolate.   I woke up early on Saturday to try my luck and buy Phish tickets for one of their reunion shows in Hampton, VA.  Luck was on my side and I got the tickets!  If anyone has any good advice for traveling to the Virginia coast or Phish tickets for Friday night, please let me know.  During the day, a bunch of friends came to play soccer on the turf field behind the Dolan Field House.  On Saturday night we went to see Worcester’s AHL hockey team, the Sharks, play in their season opener against the Providence Bruins.  It was a tight game, regulation time ending 2-2, with the Sharks pulling back a goal in over time to win 3-2.  So far this season they’re undefeated!  Also, there was a fight on the ice right in front of us.  Luckily my camera was out, so I have a sweet picture of it below.

Finally, last night was Beth’s (another RA in my residence hall) birthday. One of her residents baked her a cake and assembled a crew to sing to her.  She was very surprised and happy, so there’s a picture of that below too.  Happy 20th birthday, Beth!
