Busy Week

Good evening everybody,

I made an effort to bring my camera to all campus events I attended during the week.  I’ve got six activities to share with you.  This weekend I’m going home to see my family, two concerts and some friends, so I’m going to miss out on all the fun on-campus events.

1. Basketball

On Sunday night, myself and three other RAs hosted a pick up basketball program in the Kneller Athletic Center.  We played a fun five on five game.  I was very impressed with my resident’s ability on the court.  Our intramural team should be pretty solid when the season starts.  Here’s a picture of me and the other RAs (Dushani, Celina and Kirtana).

2. Iraq veteran speech

On Tuesday night, I went to hear Capt. Matt Holden, a Clark graduate from 2005, talk about his experience serving  in the Army as an engineer.  He was stationed in Iraq and performed many duties, including the supervision of the building of a bridge.  It was cool to hear him speak.  It just showed how diverse the careers of Clark graduates can be.  I took a picture of the flier for the event, here it is.

3. Library construction update

I’ve been noticing the library’s face lift more and more recently.  Today, sod was put in over the area that used to house bull dozers and all of the construction equipment.  This is great news for everyone on campus.  Now there is a direct pass through the middle of campus, making a lot of people’s walks much shorter.  I can’t wait to see the inside of the new floor when it opens later this year.

4.  Concert

I didn’t go, but a lot of my friends are there now.  Talib Kweli, David Banner and B.O.B with the Rhythm Roots Allstars are playing in Atwood Hall as the Major Event Committee’s Fall concert.  I stood outside and heard some of it.  It sounded pretty good, but I’m saving my ears for concerts at home this weekend.  It was cool to see people working outside of Atwood Hall today, students helping roadies carry in light fixtures and stage sets.  Here’s their tour bus.

5.  Marc Chagall

I went to hear Prof. Olga Litvak (History and Holocaust and Genocide Studies Department) deliver a talk called “Death and the Maydl”.  It was required for a class, but I probably would have gone anyways.  My professor always raves about Prof. Litvak’s teaching, so it was nice to see her enthusiasm for myself.  The lecture focused on Chagall’s paintings of his first wife, and how they influenced and were influenced by other works of art (and many other points).  Here’s a pictuer from my seat before it started.

6.  Open Mic Night

Every Thursday night, in the Bistro (Clark’s cafe style alternative to the bigger Dining Hall), students come to perform songs, read poems, tell stories and jokes and share other talents in a casual setting.  I was already in the area for the lecture, so I stopped by to watch my friend Adam perform.  He played an acoustic version of “Forgot About Dre” that was very good.  Here’s a picture.

That’s about it for now.  I have to go read some Sartre for Existentialism class tomorrow morning.  Then it’s off to NY for the weekend with my friend Dan.  Happy birthday shout-out to Yonatan!
