Hey everyone,So this week Wednesday was flavors of the world East Asia. It is our event, the international students association, held in the dining hall where each month we pick a region of the world and decorate the café with flags and ornaments from that region. The dining service at Clark works with us as well to prepare a dinner with recipes especially from that region of the world. We also have performances at around 6.15pm, where students from those regions of the world do a performance for us, kind of like dinner and a show. It was wonderful this week, we had Thai chicken and some vegetable spring rolls as well as some sushi. The café was decorated with little Chinese lanterns, some origami cranes on the tables as centre pieces and calligraphy on the walls saying “enjoy your meal” in several East Asian Languages. The performances were very entertaining as we did not only have several students play on traditional East Asian instruments such as the Sitar but we also had some East Asian rap duo drop some lines for us and sing in Chinese. Overall it was a very successful event that many people enjoyed. Next month’s dinner is going to be North America, which is going to celebrate the diversity in America, including traditional cuisines from the South that are apparently very good, especially from New Orleans, and just generally celebrating the American way of life. This Saturday was also the CASA, Caribbean African Students Association, Strictly Gold dance party in the Grind. The grind is kind of like our underground basement here at Clark where they hold dance parties or students just go there to hang out and play pool or ping pong. Sometimes they have shows such as comedians or a cappella groups perform there. Everyone was required to dress in Gold or black at the dance, where the D.J. blasted out some great music, hip hop, Reggae, and pop. There were some professional break dancers there as well, and they did do a little performance for all of us as well.So just to recap on some events that have happened that I failed to mention, firstly we did indeed lose our intramural soccer match to the dreaded Spartans. It was a crushing and decisive defeat that left us very disappointed. But we played well and will be back next season for the indoor soccer intramural league. Maybe we can redeem ourselves. The Spartan did make it to the finals however, but they too were defeated by the reigning champions “Refugees Evolutions”.Okay I will sign off here, but watch this space as its HALLOWEEN WEEKEND this weekend and I can’t wait to dress up and take funny pictures
