Halloween, Caroline’s 20th birthday and Election-eve

siama-n-paulin.jpgigor-n-ankid.jpghalloween.jpggroup-pic.jpghalo.jpgcaro-b-day.jpgcarolines-b-day.jpghey!!So at midnight on the 31st of October it was my roommate Caroline’s birthday as well as Halloween so I was forced to stay up way past midnight that night as too many festivities were happening. Firstly there was the Drag Ball in Tilton Hall (our multi-purpose hall also dubbed as Clark’s living room complete with a fireplace and terrace). Basically all the guys dress up as girls and vice versa. Some of my housemates went all out and bought studio-quality fake beards and full dress suites for the part. The guys are always the more interestingly dressed though, as is it common to see women in pants and ties, but to see your male physics lab partner is a provocative red dress that seems to look better on him than intended, makes for an entertaining sight. A lot of students had fun dressing up and dancing till the early hours of the morning, I went to the dance but unfortunately did not get a chance to dress up in drag, but did enjoy the interesting array of costumes people had on, my friend Chris is in love with Janet Jackson so he dressed up like her on the night, it was quite comical. For Caroline birthday my friends and I arranged a scavenger hunt for her. Basically we hid 20 birthday presents all over school, in the University Centre, at the Admissions Office and even the Bistro (our pick-up-and-go food cafe in the University Centre). It was fun for her and we put a lot of effort into making sure it flowed according it plan. She was so excited and surprised and the hunt went on for 4 hours or so, so it kept her busy all afternoon. The gifts ranged from I-tunes gift cars to nail polish remover and even a full length mirror…. just the little things we thought she’d need in life. Friday night was actual Halloween night and I dressed up as a Friar (it started off as a monk suite but as I have religious affiliations that made me feel a little uncomfortable about wearing a fake cross around my neck I re-worked the costume to be a the humble Friar from robin hood). Not going to lie, wearing a huge hooded cloak all night was way more comfortable than wearing my high heeled-Condoleezza Rica consume I wore last your. My friends dressed up too, as a nerd, clown, two mimes, 80’s disco king, a broke stock broker from Wall Street and even an Emo kid (dressed all in black with hair over their faces). We went trick-or-treating at my friend’s dorm, Sanford Hall, where she was the Residential Advisor on duty, and she gave us some candy. The next Saturday some of my housemates went out canvassing for Barack Obama in New Hemisphere. My friend Meagan was the president of the Democrats of Clark club, and now is the senior mentor for the club. She has been prepping all month for the elections on Tuesday, as there is going to be a huge election-watching event in our dining hall on the huge projectors on Tuesday night, where Americans will wait for the fate of the countries political future. I personally, being a citizen of Namibia, have no real say in the matter as I cannot vote. But I can’t deny the fact that these elections have been so entertaining to watch. I have been watching all the rallies, debates, comedian spoofs and CNN analysis of both campaigns. I hope Americans go out there and vote on Tuesday, either way they need to make a stand and let their voices be heard. So yeah, probably by the time you read my next blog we will all know who the new President of the United States of America is! I will make sure to take a couple of pics. of the election celebrations in the Dining hall on Tuesday  (I’m assuming either way the elections go someone out there is going to celebrate)See you after Tuesday
