Wow – I can’t believe that it’s already November! This semester has gone by quickly for me. It seems like the further I get to graduating, the quicker time flies. Probably because I haven’t really figured out what to do with my life yet, which is frightening (haha). I have to start thinking about finals soon! Anyways, down to business…
On Saturday a bunch of us ventured out to Babson to see the Clark women’s soccer team play in the first round of the NEWMAC playoffs. In their first meeting this year the Cougars lost 1-0 in a really close game, so we were all excited to see the match.
Plus, last year was a mirror image of this year – Clark played at Babson in the first round of NEWMACs in 2007. But the similarities didn’t end there.
After regulation it was tied 0-0 (even though Babson had outshot us by a lot), and nothing changed in the two overtimes. So, just like last year, Clark was in a shootout with Babson in the first round of NEWMACs! Our softball teammate Joanna is the goalie for the Cougars, so we were extra nervous. However, unlike last year, we won the shootout 4-3, when Joanna took a PK and made it (have you ever heard of a goalie taking a PK? I haven’t) and then stopped Babson’s last shot! It was great to see the entire team so happy – they hadn’t beat Babson since 2005, which is a pretty long streak. Plus Babson is always one of the best teams in the NEWMAC so that means that Clark is getting better and better. They play Wheaton next Saturday and you can bet that I will be there. GO COUGARS!!!!
In other news, I have recently rediscovered the joy that is Skype, which is program that allows you to video chat with people all around the world. My sister and I talk a lot via Skype now – she is in Washington attending the University of Puget Sound as a junior. The best thing about this is that I get to meet all of her friends, and she gets to meet all of my friends, even though we’re thousands of miles away. So now I actually know who she’s talking about when she refers to someone, which is kinda cool even if i haven’t met them in person. I haven’t been able to see my sister for almost a year now, and it’ll be another 6 months before I get to (I’m planning on visiting her at UPS after finals), so we try to keep in contact as much as possible. I also get to talk with my buddy Max, who is in the London Internship Program (shameless plug: check out his Clark study abroad blog at maxmiller-london.blogspot.com/). I’ve never been out of the country, so I get to be jealous when he talks about going to Amsterdam and Ireland, not to mention he gets to live right in the middle of London.
