Last week of classes

This past week was the last week of classes for this semester. I was busy studying most of the time, and so were my fellow students. The library became one of the most popular places on-campus. The construction of the library is almost completed and it is great to see the new first floor with the big Frech-glass windows. I am excited about the grand opening of the new Academic Commons at the library on January 12, 2009, which is also going to be the first day of the spring semester.

There was also great news for my club Initial Advantage. Our club was chosen as one of the three recipients of the Brain K. Yee’93 Award for Student Government Excellence for 2007-08. I went to the student council meeting on Wednesday, along with the president and vice president of my club, to get the certificate of the Award. We will receive $550 prize money for our spring 2009 budget. Furthermore, I think the award is a recognition for all the club members’ efforts in organizing and participating in the events we created. It is also an encouragement for us to work even harder in the future. We stayed about one hour at the student council meeting before heading to the weekly IA meeting and sharing the good news with other members. The student council meeting was a first-time experience for me, and I thought it was impressively well-organized.  There were around thirty members including the executive board members, judiciary committee members, and representatives from different groups of the student body. It was a weekly meeting and any student who wanted to apply for a special budget could write a proposal and present it at the meeting. The officers vote for the proposal after that. But we didn’t stick around for the results.
