Hey everyone! It’s great to get back into the swing of things in 2009 – school’s up and running again, and I’m really enjoying my classes thus far. This is the first semester that I’ve taken a graduate class (HGS 352 – Holocaust through Diaries and Letters with Deborah Dwork), and it’s interesting to take a class with graduate students – not only because they are much more refined in the field, which leads to great discussion, but also because some of these students have probably graded my exams while working as TAs! It’s a great opportunity to further my knowledge of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Clark. I’m also taking Holocaust Perpetrators with my advisor Thomas Kuehne, Women in Jewish Culture with my HGS advisor Shelly Tenenbaum, and Valerie Sperling’s Transitions to Democracy. Thankfully there’s a little more variety in my schedule than my last semester, which consisted of 4 History classes. However, it’s still going to be hard work, especially with my plan to finish my Capstone project this semester.
This winter break differed from my first two here at Clark because I stayed in Worcester for the layoff. The Clark community absolutely disappears for three weeks! I was on campus for a large amount of the time, as I worked in Carlson Hall with ITS (Information Technology Services). I also got to spend time working in the Goddard Library – it was great to see the entire renovation come together. The first floor looks fantastic now! Now, I know you’re wondering if I was all alone for the holidays. Thankfully, I wasn’t – I went home with Mel (of Clark Diarist fame) for about a week and stayed with her family for Christmas, which needless to say was excellent – thanks!
Every time the Spring semester rolls around, there’s one thing that comes to mind – getting in shape during the 2 weeks before softball practices start! After next week, Coach Wage, Mike and Heather (Warren ‘08, our grad assistant) get to come to practice to help us improve our skills (by a whole lot) and to run us ragged (not so much. Well, kind of.). Once we start, we only have about 4 weeks to get ourselves into game shape before we go to Florida for 10 games during Spring Break. I’m already so pumped! (Uh oh…better get myself to the gym!)
