Hello and happy new year everybody!
I hope Winter Break was swell for all of you who had a vacation. I’ve been on campus since January 7, a few days earlier than most, because of RA Training. It was nice to have extra time to adjust before classes and the routine began. I’ll try to give you a general update this week, but already a lot of exciting things have happened!
What classes am I taking this semester?
EDUC152- Complexities of Urban Schooling
FREN124- Pop Culture in France
HIST245-Foreign Policy in the US & the Middle East since 1945
CMLT130-the National Imagination
-I’m looking forward to this semester because all of my classes relate to my majors (History and French) and get more in depth than classes in the past. The “meat” of my academic life at Clark is starting to emerge. My schedule seems good so far, with three 1-class days and two 2-class days, getting out at 1:15 on Fridays, providing time for fun weekend adventures.
-the construction at the library is finished and is getting rave reviews. There’s a little coffee shop called Jazz Man’s on the newly built first floor, which will give fuel to those needing it during late night study sessions. It accepts Dining Dollars in addition to cash, which are part of the meal plan. Here’s a picture of the library from outside. Also this week, there was a Carnival in Tilton Hall with games and food. I only won the Ring Toss and Over/Under dice game, but everyone wins with cotton candy.
-This long weekend (3 days for MLK Day) gave me a chance to explore New England. On Friday after French class, I took a bus to Boston and met up with my uncle who drove me a couple hours north to Hanover, NH. I saw two friends who I worked with during the summer at Dartmouth (shout out to Gaby, Zeva and the Blue Zoo!). I liked exploring their campus and comparing certain aspects with Clark. New England is great because nothing is that far away. On Saturday night, I was with my aunt and uncle in Vermont. We went snow shoeing, played with their dog and ate at a cool hibachi Japanese restaurant.
I’m looking forward to all of the special events on Tuesday for Inauguration Day. I know that the ceremony will be shown on a big screen in Dana Commons. Hopefully my French professor will let us watch the end of the festivities (even if it’s in French) during my class at noon on Tuesday.
Any questions? I hope you all are doing well. If there is any aspect of Clark life you’d like me to cover more this semester, please send me an e-mail or leave a note!
