Inauguration and Basketball Game

Hey guys,

I hope everyone had a great holiday season. 2009 is here and so is our new president. I was upset when I realized I had a noon class on Tuesday and was going to miss the inauguration. But thankfully when I got to class my professor had the projection screen down and told us we would be watching it for the first thirty minutes of class. So there I was sitting in my research methods course at Clark University watching Barack Obama being sworn into office. It was a very proud moment and I was happy to share it with my peers.

After class I walked over to Dana Commons, the cultural center here at Clark. They were showing the inauguration on the big screen and many students were gathered there to watch it together. They also provided some drinks and snacks which is always great.

Tonight I went to the men’s basketball game vs.Wheaton College. The men have been doing really well lately and had a 3-1 conference record coming into tonight’s game. There was also a lot of hype because junior forward Mark Alexander was 15 points away from scoring his 1,000th career point. The gym was packed with people there to support and cheer him on.

Mark scored 11 points in the first half so it seemed like it wouldn’t be long into the second half before he scored his 1,000th point. But Mark made it a little more exciting for us fans. With two minutes left in the game and only two more points needed, Mark was fouled and sent to the line. He hit the first shot…so now he was only one point away…but then he missed the second! Finally, in the last 45 seconds of the game, Mark pulled up for a jumper and was fouled again. So he was sent to the line once more and this time when he hit his shot the gym went crazy! He got a standing ovation while his coach and the athletic director came out to quickly congratulate him. It was really a fun and exciting game to watch.
