Spring Season is here!!! Well sort of…

Hey Guys,

This week is pretty exciting because today is the official start of the spring athletic season. Clark has four spring varsity athletics programs; men’s lacrosse, men’s tennis, baseball, and of course, softball. So today we had our first official softball practice with Coach Wage…at 7am! Everyone’s class schedules are all over the place so it’s tough to find times during the day when everyone can come to practice. So sometimes we have to have morning practices so that it doesn’t conflict with class times. Clark athletes are not allowed to miss a class for a practice but they are allowed to miss a class for a game at the professor’s discretion. This year we only have morning practices twice a week so it’s not that bad.

Since it’s obviously still winter, we have to practice indoors in the Dolan Fieldhouse. The Dolan Fieldhouse is located on Beaver street, about a 5 minute walk from the central campus. It is also where all the Clark sports fields are located. The Dolan is basically a huge open gym that is used by students, intramurals, club teams, and of course the varsity athletic teams. It’s a fairly new building (opened in 2003) and is great for indoor practice because it’s basically a big open speace. Although we can’t do everything inside that we would normally do outside at our field, we are still able to prepare for our spring training trip to Florida. Every year the softball and baseball teams travel to Florida during spring break. Last year we went to Fort Myers but this year we’re going some place new, Clermont, to play at the National Training Center. Clermont is only 20 minutes away from Orlando so hopefully we’ll get to go to Disney World or Universal Studios on our day off. But before our day off (which is the last day of the trip) we play 10 games in 5 days! It’s pretty intense but wicked fun. Last year in Fort Myers we had a 7-3 record so hopefully this year we can improve and win those last 3 games. We have just over a month before spring break so we’ll practice 6 days a week at the Dolan from now until our departure. I’ll let you know how it goes…
