Hi everybody,
It’s the last night of Spring Break and hopefully you all have adjusted for Daylight Savings Time by now. I wasn’t on campus much this week, but here’s a summary of my week anyways. I went home to Albany, NY on a train a week ago and stayed there for 3 days. On Wednesday, I flew to Baltimore, where my friend Adam from Clark picked me up to go to his house in Rockville, MD. We then went to Washington DC for the afternoon and celebrated his mother’s birthday at a great Mexican restaurant later on.
After spending the night at Adam’s, I went into the city again see some more sites and meet up with another friend from Clark. Later in the day, I met up with my cousin and a friend from home who is in DC for a semester. I spent the night at American University then did (surprise!) more touristy things on Friday. A friend from my summer job came to DC for dinner at Phillip’s Seafood restaurant, where we ate our weight in crab legs. I stayed at his apartment in College Park, MD on Friday night.
Highlights of my time in Washington include: the Holocaust Memorial Museum, watching John Kerry and other Senators read speeches on the Senate floor, the National Archives, getting a Library of Congress card and stuffing myself at an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet.
Arriving at Washington DC’s Union Station at 7:00AM, I took a train with Margaret, a Clark friend, to Newport News VA. We got a ride to Hampton VA (the next town over) for the event I’ve been anticipating since mid-October: a Phish concert at the Hampton Coliseum. The town of Hampton was taken over by Phish fans, which was a great sight after 5 Phish-less years. With two other people from Clark, we stayed in a hotel, then headed over to the venue for the show. It was PHANTASTIC and a great feeling to see the band playing again. If you’re interested, the entire show is free for download here: www.livephish.com/live-music/0,452/Phish-mp3-flac-download-3-7-2009-Hampton-Coliseum-Hampton-VA.html .
Earlier today, we flew from Newport News VA to Boston, then took a bus to Worcester. It was a lot of traveling around, but through good weather, generous friends, reliable public transportation and meticulous planning, the week was ideal. Seeing old friends, family and favorite bands is always enjoyable.
Next week I promise to have a more Clark-related entry. Have a good week and enjoy the extra daylight!
