Hi everybody,
They say that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. The lamb has descended over Worcester today. People have come out of their rooms and are all over the campus reading, tanning and hanging out. Unfortunately, I have a couple hours of library time ahead of me because I had a pretty non-academic weekend.
My friend David from home was here for Friday and Saturday night. On Friday night we went to a Clark Bars a Capella concert. Along with Clark’s co-ed group, an all male group from American University “On a Sensual Note” performed a few songs. Both did a great job. After the concert, there was a dance in the dining hall. It was a rave-style event with lots of crazy lights and people dancing on top of tables.
On Saturday night, there was an event called Clark Idol. Similar to American Idol in design, this contest featured talented Clark students who performed on a television broadcast by the campus TV station. This show was aired on Thursday night, then Saturday night was the final, with about 8 out of 25 contestants competing. I watched the TV show, but was not at the final. It was cool to see people on TV who I didn’t know were involved in singing. The reason I missed the final on Saturday night was simple and worthwhile to me: lobsters. Five of my friends decided to try our hands at the New England tradition. A seafood seller down the road told us how to do it, then we picked out live lobsters, brought them back to campus, and gave them a hot bath (sorry vegetarians!). Before eating lobster, we stopped by the Multicultural Dinner in Tilton Hall, which included dishes from campus groups representing almost every region of the world.
Today (Sunday) there was a St. Patrick’s Day parade on Park Ave, which I could hear from my room. Also, Hillel held a Lox of Love event, where participants donated their hair to Locks of Love. Everyone else could make donations and eat bagels and lox. Tonight kicks off the indoor intramural soccer season. I registered my team on Wednesday and am very excited to play with them again.
This week I’m predicting an average amount of homework and a lot of work toward planning Just Do It day. I’m on RA duty tonight, so hopefully I can knock off some of the assignments, including a French presentation about Manu Chao.
Have a good week,
Jeremy
