Hello everyone,
There were many events going on last weekend. I went to the Hip-hop show with my two fellow Clark Diarist. It was a fabulous performance especially the last part when the dancers incorporated the famous singer Usher’s songs and stories into their dance. The hip-hop shows have always been the most popular and greatest performances on-campus and audience need to go there in advance to get a good seat.
My friends and I went to the Ladies Night sponsored by TOPICS and OIA on Saturday night. Every lady would receive a flower at the entrance. There were also many gentlemen who came to the event which I think was great because women need their support to pursue ladies’ rights. The sponsors of the event invited Dr. Barbara Tennenbaum from Brown University as the speaker of the night. Professor Tennenbaum talked about the women’s rights and how women should speak out instead of being restricted by cultures and traditions. She also provided some suggestions for women to empower ourselves. A great example she gave during the speech was when we compare the way men sit and women sit: the difference is obvious that men consume a much larger space, which reflects women’s attitudes towards choices they face. The speech was really inspiring.
The whole equestrian team went to our Barn, Belle Wood Stables, to volunteer for its semi-annual horse show on Sunday. I helped Michele and Gaby give away prizes and ribbons. We also had a bake sale to provide riders and their family food and refreshments. We had cute cupcakes which look like ice-cream cones, brownies, muffins, and my chocolate chip cookies. I spent the whole afternoon on Saturday baking chocolate chip cookies. It was my first time baking since we don’t use oven in China. The cookies looked pretty and smelled nice when I opened the oven. I think I fell in love with baking since then. I will definitely bake more often and learn to bake a variety of foods. Two of the equestrian team members, Solynca and Gaby participated in the Horse Show, and both did wonderful jobs in their classes. Gaby received three blue ribbons (First Place), one yellow ribbon (third place) and one champion ribbon which means you have the best overall performances in all the classes you participated in. Solynca were rewarded by two blue ribbons and one champion ribbon. The whole team was proud of them.
