Research and Gala Hell Week!

Hey Everyone, So this week has been pretty hectic with preparing for the Gala on the 3rd of April, as well having all my science class exams. This week was Biophysical chemistry, which sounds like it involves every single science subject possible, that is because it does! I also worked a little on my Genetics research with Dr. Thackeray. We are attempting to find a genetic linkage of a particular PLC Gene found in several species of invertebrates. This gene has several subunits, alpha, beta and gamma, but through evolution some species are missing some subunits and/or have duplicated a subunit. By using online software and templates of the PLC gene codes, we can compare what domains are present in flies, bees and snails to give us a clue on the importance and role of this gene in life.  Sunday night saw the first of the “Hell Week” dress rehearsals for Gala.Considering we have over 300 performers and around 32 countries being represented, it was quite a packed rehearsal. We got to chance to see several of the dances and from what I have seen so far, the show is going to look great. I am choreographing Southern Africa dance with my friend Mariana from Angola, as well as the Germany dance with my other friend Justine. So we have added pressure to make sure the dances look good, dancers are on time and prepped, and of course costumes!!This is going to be a long week! But see you guys on the other side.p.s: check out the International Gala website; link is on the slideshow tabs on the homepage!!!
