Goodbye for now!

Hello loyal readers,

This is the last chronicle of my life on Clark Diaries for now!  The end of the year has showed up, so it’s time to hunker down in the library until classes and finals are over.  I had a great weekend and probably saw many of you on campus for Admitted Student Weekend.  There has been a lot of time spent in the library typing, so it’s a relief to write about what I’ve been up to, rather than Middle Eastern policy or French language laws.

Last week was the end of my intramural soccer team’s season.  We finished with a 3-2 (winning!) record and had a blast along the way.  I look forward to returning to the Fall 2010 season already, hopefully the team will stay together while I’m abroad next year.  Here’s a picture.

On Wednesday, I went to the last “Table Francaise” meeting of the year.  This is when the French TAs bring in food, drinks and patience for students to practice speaking with real Francophones.  In my French class, as a treat for the last class, Madame Ferly and Noemie (TA) taught us about text message abbreviations in France.  MDR (mort de rire) = LOL (laugh out loud). Here is the French Table itself.

Once the weekend arrived, it was concert time.  Friday night I was introduced to a new venue in Worcester called Tammany Hall.  There was a Phish tribute band called “Strange Design” on the bill for a cheap cover charge.  I didn’t know what to expect, because Phish songs are so complex, but they were awesome and spot on.  They covered a 1993 show from PA, replicating the setlist and onstage antics.   dscn0084-strange-design.jpg

Saturday was Dead day.  My friend from Providence College came up for a day full of tunes.  We went back to Tammany Hall to see a tribute band called Playin’ Dead from Boston play a pre-Dead set, then walked over to the DCU Center to see “The Dead” (remaining members of the Grateful Dead) play until about midnight, then walked back for a post-Dead set from Playin’ Dead  Lots of great music in two fun days.  Here are pictures from Saturday.

Tomorrow is Academic Spree Day.  Students present their research projects and other interesting findings from the year.  I will be presenting about German Self-Perception in Music with Adam and Margaret from our Comparative Literature class.  A few more assignments then I’ll be ready to start my volunteering at the Worcester Art Museum for the summer!

I hope my blog has been helpful if you are curious about life at Clark (or if you’re a friend/family member keeping track of me).  Worcester has a lot to offer, in addition to the surfeit of activities on campus. Have a great late Spring and Summer!  Hopefully I’ll see you after I get back from France in Fall 2010.

Jeremy,
I have enjoyed reading about your school year. It looks like you spent as much time on your studies as you have on musical events. Please keep in touch, at least as often, next year from France!
