Even though it already happened I just wanted to share with all of you about one of my favorite events at Clark. I’m part of the Global Scholars Program (GSP) and one of the privileges we receive is participating in an exclusive dinner hosted by Dr. John Bassett, President of Clark University. Every Semester I receive an invitation to the President Residence, historical Harrington House for a nice and fancy dinner to which all GSP’s and their faculty mentors are invited.
Many of my peers and faculty members attended the dinner. It was a refreshing semi-formal environment in which students got to talk to their mentors and then the dinner was followed by President Basset’s encouraging speech on scholar’s commitment to provide a challenging education with a “global focus”. Then Amy Daly, Director of the Office of Intercultural Affairs continued to present the new scholars. This year they came from: Ecuador, Nepal and Sri Lanka. As the night followed up the older GSP’s began to talk about their experiences on making a difference through our program. Many of them talked about their summer experiences and emphasized how thankful they were for the help received from GSP internship stipend. For instance, Tanya D’Lima talked about her story of her summer internship in Malawi, and Eugene Miculet told us about his one year study abroad program in London School of Economics.
The dinner was so interesting and so much fun. I love being a Global Scholar; however I have to say that what I loved the most about it was the food! I’m sorry, but you all have to know that I’m a food lover, any kind and at any time! Food is just always welcomed. Thanks to President Basset and his wife Kay, I had one of the best meals in a long time along with interesting stories and speeches. I’m definitively looking forward to the next one.
