3 Mid-Terms, 1 Movie, and a 19th Birthday!

Hey soon-to-be Clarkies, Clarkies and all of the above! I hope you’re as excited as I am, as we both embark on this journey together. I hope you enjoy my first post.  Any questions, comments or suggestions,  are welcomed. I look forward to hearing from you!

So, I highly doubt that my mother really knows that she has paid for me to live in the library opposed to the really nice decorated dorm room that I’m never really in. I mean at this point I might as well have my own bed on the fourth floor. There could only be one reason as to why someone was willing holding themselves hostage in the library— mid-terms. Some way, somehow out of four enrolled courses, three had scheduled mid-terms during the previous week. If I was back in elementary school, I’d be sure that the professors were sleep I was deprived of from the weeks before.plotting against me. But that way of thinking is of the past ( wink ). Monday: Intro to Logic mid-term, Tuesday: Explore the Universe mid-term, Wednesday: Communications & Culture mid-term. Three days back to back, hmmnn the more I look at it, someone is testing me (no pun intended, ha).  Thursday and Friday were all a blur since I was catching up on all the sleep I was deprived of from the weeks before.

I love that these have been installed all over campus! Clean Hands= Strong Immune Systems!

But, it wasn’t until my field trip with the rest of the Black Student Union on Sunday that I really caught up on sleep. The bus ride to Providence, RI was a good one. About 30 BSUers ventured to the Providence Mall to watch the Docu-comedy “Good Hair” by Chris Rock. I know, I know. Trust me; it wasn’t our choice to drive that far. That theatre was the only one playing the film. *Fun Fact: The Providence Mall is HUGE and really nice. Anyway, over the summer I saw the trailer for this film that would explore, answer questions and discuss taboos about Black women’s hair. So of course I thought this would be a great field trip that would spark an amazing dialogue. . .  Let’s just say, I really regret going. There were mixed reviews on the film, and by mixed, I mean me just absolutely hating it. Personally, I didn’t agree with his portrayal of Black women’s view on their hair. There was an extreme lack of a historical stand point. Overall it wasn’t really a documentary, but more so a comedic film and I left feeling empty. It led to a great discussion though and everything that our BSU audience was unsure of was cleared up to the best of our abilities. But, I do recommend everyone seeing it for themselves, because I’m a firm believer of being a judge for one ’s self.

On a lighter note, right after the meeting, the Executive-Board (E-Board) surprised me with a cake for my 19th Birthday. I love them; they’re a second family.
