This fall Clark Athletics has had a lot to be proud of both on and off the field. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has been planning and participating in different events that engage the community, campus and athletes. SAAC organized the first ever Fall Sports team Pasta dinner that brought together the Women’s and Men’s soccer, Women’s and men’s Cross country, Women’s and Men’s rowing, Field Hockey, Women’s tennis and women’s Volleyball. A few out of season athletes helped cook the food while the fall athletes enjoyed socializing, eating and decorating cookies with ‘pump up’ messages. The pasta dinner had a great turnout and was a fun time, so SAAC is planning to have another one for the winter sports.
This week many sports teams, participated in the annual Trick-or-Treat for canned goods. At the beginning of the week students handed out information on flyers at houses on outlined routes around Worcester. Then on Friday afternoon the athletes went back to the houses to collect non-perishable food. The event was very successful as we have lots of food to donate to the Worcester County Food Bank this upcoming week. Many thanks go out to all the athletes who helped with the event and to the community who donated food.
The past few weeks have been filled with celebrating seniors in their last home game of the season. Last week my friends Chloe and Mel were Clark super fans as we helped celebrate the senior games of Women’s Soccer and tennis. My roommate Joanna Clark and seven other women’s soccer players, along with my friend Phoebe Livingston on tennis were recognized in the senior celebration. Mel, Chloe and I decided to surprise our senior friends by painting our face, making shirts and posters to help cheer the teams on.
SAAC also sponsored a Fall Fest that involved Frisbee golf, cider, apples and candy. Starting in the center of campus an eighteen target course was designed around JC and Bullock Hall. Frisbee golf uses an eighteen target course where the objective is to throw the Frisbee so that it hits the target in as little throws as possible. There was a mixed turn out of those that were competitive and those that were leisurely enjoying themselves. Overall the course was well designed and many people stopped by to try Frisbee golf or just to enjoy some candy and cider.
The basketball season started on Oct.15th and we have been practicing 6 days a week since then. We have our first scrimmage this upcoming week. The team is working hard and I am excited for my senior season! If you want to find out more about the athletics at Clark check out the website or come to an upcoming game!
