Before we get into the more entertaining news, I wanted to tell you guys about the community service that the Athletic Department does. For the past two semesters we have being doing community service at the Jacob Hiatt school down the street. We go into the school, sit through lunch with the kids, and then we join them in recess. Each student goes once a week, and is assigned to the same class. Sometimes the kids get a little crazy, but for the most part it is an easy thing to do and the kids enjoy our company.
Well, as expected Halloween did not go uncelebrated. From what I heard there were two parties on both Friday and Saturday, all of which have their own interesting stories. The costumes were really funny for the most part, next year I’m gonna try to go big in that category. Unfortunately I did not join in on the festivities this year. It was one of those weekends that I really just wasn’t feeling it. I needed a weekend to relax because things were getting crazy at the time (bad timing I know). But, I still had a fun weekend laying back with my girlfriend.
Tonight is gonna be the night that I play catch-up with my inner party animal (exaggerating, but really, I am).
Tonight is one of the nights the baseball team organizes a “team bonding event” (kinda on the down low so shhhhh). In this event we have an “organized tournament” to see who gets the bragging rights for the semester. It’s an invite only, just the baseball team and those within the team’s inner realms (Nate, the student team manager and Brian Hannah, roommate at some point with about half the team). That means no girls (Mitch, I’m on you about this one), coaches, other sports teams, or visiting friends (don’t judge the event based on the roster, judge it based on the event itself). The time and place of the event are not to be revealed to anybody not on the list, in fact, the public (you) is lucky to hear about this at all (which means some people will be very unhappy with me later, so you readers better appreciate this post). It’s just another reason that the team gets along so well, and I am absolutely pumped to get it going.
Before I get too excited, next week is when the class registration for the spring takes place. For those students looking at Clark, the registration takes place on the internet in a time frame given to you by the Web for Student’s section on the Clark website. Before you register for your classes you must get the hold removed by your faculty advisor the prior week (advising week (this week)). The advisors are given to you based on what you intend on majoring in (I have a math professor), and they help you choose the classes you take so that you may fulfill all of your requirements on time. If you forget to meet with your advisor and the hold is not removed, you cannot register. When this happens you either hope that your classes have not been filled, or you have to get permission to join your classes from their respective professors (it is a world of chaos, so just remember to meet with your advisor).
I myself have been having a lot of problems getting my schedule together next semester. I have 1 class left in my minor and 8 left in my major. I am behind on my major because I took a lot of engineering prerequisites my freshman year in case I decided to do the 3/2 program or go into engineering in graduate school. Also, there are 8 liberal arts requirements that must be fulfilled by all students, unless they have AP credits in related courses. A couple of my prerequisites were also liberal arts requirements, so I was able to kill two birds with one stone on a few occasions. But, now I am having trouble getting my classes together due to the fact that I have to take at least two math classes next semester, my last entrepreneurship class is not offered again until the fall, and I cannot have any classes that go past 1:15 because I will have baseball. In a situation where I must take a certain class, I can miss practice on days I have that class, but I cannot miss practice every day and I cannot miss games on Tuesdays and Thursdays. My coach, my advisor, an I have been trying to work things out, but its going to be a very tight schedule. I am hoping to get a directive study as a class because as of right now I can only fit three classes into my schedule. If I got the directive study I want, it would be related to my minor, engineering, design (all of which interest me)and I can schedule my class time when it fits into my schedule, so that would be perfect. I have a meeting with more information about it on Monday. I am really crossing my fingers for this because I am supposed to register for my classes on Tuesday morning (for the love of everything sacred, work out, please!).
(by the way, how sick are you of theses unnecessary little (but funny) tangents in () ?(haha (lol (brb (jk)))))
Back to the stuff that doesn’t make people hate everything (not to be taken literally (yes, I know there was no transition to this topic). On Saturday I plan on seeing “This is It” with Pete Skerry and my girlfriend (I remembered the name of it this time (didn’t remember on the last post)) and at some point I have to see the new Boondock Saints movie(no I haven’t gotten to it yet). Also, I have to revise my resume because career services went over it for me and left a few suggestions. When Saturday passes, Sunday is homework day, and Church day, and NEWMAN day, and that is pretty much what the weekend will consist of. I’ll let you know how all of this stuff (”team bonding”, registration, the weekend (if you were paying attention at all) ends up next week (don’t you just love these cliffhangers that force you to read my amazing post next week? (rhetorical)).
P.S.
I know the whole registration thing was not explained in great depth, so if you have questions just let me know. If you e-mail me, put something that will keep me from deleting it in the subject line because I get a lot of junk mail, particularly from AOL. Adios!
